PCE heads for Moorland

In recognition of work to date on HMP Featherstone 2, PCE has been selected by Kier Northern to undertake the precast design and build of a three-storey 180 place houseblock and a two-storey education block at HMP Moorland, near Doncaster.

The new buildings are an addition to the existing prison.

Both buildings will feature precast concrete floor slabs with cast-in heater mats, external sandwich panels and cast-in M&E services.

Heater mats will be cast in to the precast units forming the suspended floors to both buildings and the ground floor of the houseblock.

The sandwich panels, which each form the external face to four cells and achieve a ‘U’ value of 0.25 W/m²K, will have a coloured external finish similar to architectural masonry. They will also have windows and grilles cast in.

Door frames will be cast-in to the appropriate internal wall panels.

All internal exposed faces of the sandwich panels, the internal walls and soffits will be finished to a standard that allows for direct decoration.

An erection crew will start work on site in September 2010 with the assembly of the 150 plus precast components and two staircases to the education block. With another crew starting the installation of more than 500 precast components and five staircases to the houseblock in October. PCE’s contract is programmed at 14 weeks.
