Moorland contract completed

PCE Design & Build has completed the construction phase of HMP Moorland near Doncaster.

The 14-week site programme on behalf of Kier Northern is now complete with PCE building a three-storey 180 place houseblock and a two-storey education block to designs by the company’s own team. Finishing works are now under way.

The new buildings are an addition to the existing prison.

Both buildings feature precast concrete floor slabs with cast-in heater mats, external sandwich panels and cast-in M&E services.

Heater mats are cast in to the precast units forming the suspended floors to both buildings and the ground floor of the houseblock.

The Techrete sandwich panels, which each form the external face to four cells and achieve a ‘U’ value of 0.25 W/m²K, have a coloured external finish similar to architectural masonry. They also feature cast-in windows and grilles and door frames are cast-in to the appropriate internal wall panels.

All internal exposed faces of the sandwich panels, the internal walls and soffits are finished to a standard that allows for direct decoration.

During the contract PCE erected more than 650 precast concrete units procured from its own supply chain.
