PCE lands British Precast Innovation Award!
PCE scooped first prize in Innovation category of the British Precast Awards 2011 for its contribution to the major HMP Featherstone 2 project in Staffordshire,
The award comes as PCE completes the last of 12 precast concrete buildings on site, which it has achieved to programme in just 12 months, designing the precast elements and erecting more than 13,000 units from six British precast suppliers.
PCE has been involved in the project on behalf of Kier Build from the outset, taking charge of the precast design, managing the supply chain and erecting all the buildings to programme.
In naming PCE the Innovation category winner, British Precast commented: “The scale of this project was overwhelming – with eleven buildings and six precasters, the judges were truly impressed by the high levels of coordination and performance. They commented that PCE had shown excellent ambition and had clearly demonstrated the ability of the precast sector to rise to the challenge of creating such a major project and remarked on the potential repeatability of the solution across other buildings and sectors.”
It also added: “The project showcases the innovative project delivery strategy, management excellence and industry leading precast construction processes of PCE. This is the first time the precast manufacturing industry has been brought together on this scale to deliver a single project. It is PCE’s vision to offer its clients the best the precast industry can offer by ensuring it works together.”
PCE Managing Director Nickie Brown commented: “This has been a mammoth project for us and everyone is delighted with the result. It is truly a milestone in the transition of PCE from a construction-based operation to an accomplished all-round design, construction management and build company.
“This project has amply demonstrated what we are capable of as a company and how we can rise to the occasion however large or complex the challenge.”
