Robust Construction

Precast concrete construction is perfectly suited to the custodial market. With security and durability being of paramount importance, a well designed and constructed concrete structure delivers the requirements of the client and establishment.

PCE's cellular construction approach utilises single solid concrete wall and floor components, designed and manufactured to project specific requirements. All walls are generally load bearing across the complete structure; these form the means of vertical support and lateral stability. Longitudinal stability is achieved through the floors working in a diaphragm action.

All joints are fully filled with a high strength, none shrink thixotropic grout and are finished flush with adjacent panels to negate the need for additional mastic work. A series of vertical and horizontal ties are incorporated within the elements to meet the code requirements regarding progressive collapse. The vertical tie between wall elements is achieved with a bolted connection providing a high level of control and accuracy.

Visible concrete faces receive direct decoration and are therefore highly durable, minimal re-decoration is all that is necessary to maintain a quality product through it's design life (60 years) and beyond. Casting in all security components and M&E ensures all weak points are designed out and a fully robust solution is achieved.
