The Project
PCE Design & Build successfully completed a major contract to install the façade of the new Hilton Hotel at the heart of the vibrant Liverpool One development.
The new landmark development on the Liverpool waterfront presented a major logistical challenge both in the installation of more than 1,000 delicate and high quality architectural precast elements produced in sparkling white reconstructed Portland Stone.
The site, in a confined area between a new public transport interchanges and a parkland area concealing an underground car park, presented a number of challenges including health and safety, site engineering and logistics.
Some 816 precast panels, together with around 200 glass reinforced concrete panels form the outer cladding for the new four-star hotel.
The main wall panels are manufactured in seven metre heights, each rising two storeys, creating a 'mullion' effect to visually stretch the building, while fascia beams cross the panels horizontally every second storey.
PCE has carried out 'just-in-time' construction, with each component craned into place and fixed immediately upon delivery.
The development features a basement, the eight-floor hotel with 216 bedrooms, restaurants, function rooms and bars. The three top storeys will house 47 apartments to be occupied by private residents.
The hotel is part of Grosvenor's £1 billion plus scheme to revitalise the Liverpool waterfront with a mix of retail, commercial, leisure and residential developments.
